Giant Ironweed (Vernonia gigantea)

Giant ironweed makes a late-season statement with purple flower clusters held above an upright framework of green stems and leaves. Kew’s Plants of the World Online lists a native range from southeastern Canada through the central and eastern United States. Ontario is the Canadian portion of that treatment.
