What’s the Difference Between Toro Titan and Titan Max Based on Features?

1. Engine Reliability and Power:

First of all, I want to clarify that both Kohler and Toro V-twin engines are good and reliable.

Titan model has a 24.5 HP Toro V-Twin and, Titan Max has a Kohler 26 HP engine. Both are good engine brands with proven track records.

Here, the basic difference besides the HP rating is that Kohler engines are a bit costlier than Toro ones.

Over the years, Kohler has improved their ZT mower engines making them more fuel-efficient, durable, and easy to maintain.

If you buy Toro Titan, you will have to compromise the horsepower slightly, but the savings will let you buy other important pieces of stuff.

2. Durability:

Fabrication of Toro Titan and Titan Max includes sturdy and durable metal. After several years of riding, users seem to like how well they perform.

They sell their residential mowers telling that they are commercial-like. In terms of durability and reliability, you will find Toro on the trustworthy side.

Indeed, they won’t last as a commercial model. Still, Titan and Titan Max last longer than most of the ZTRs on the market. 

3. Fuel Tank Capacity:

Another very important fact to consider is both models’ fuel tank capacity as it is directly connected to the runtime.

Going through their spec sheet, I have seen that Titan has only an 18.9L capacity whereas the Titan Max has a 26.5L capacity.

Indeed, the Titan Max has a more powerful engine which means that it consumes more fuel than Titan.

Still, the difference in their capacity is significant which gives you more runtime in Titan Max.

4. Forward Speed:

The speed of your mower depends on several parameters.

Because of weight to power ratio optimization, both models in this comparison don’t have much difference in forwarding speed.

According to the official data, Titan can achieve up to 13.7 Km/h and Titan Max can achieve 14.5 km/h in forwarding speed.

So, it is hard to tell a winner in this section as you can get lesser speed in your Titan Max for various reasons.

5. Drive Tires:

Wider and larger tires are always a better option for zero-turn mowers. You have already seen the tire sizes in the comparison table above.

Let me explain what those numbers mean.

First of all, Titan comes with 22” x 11” – 10”, and Titan Max comes with 23” x 12” – 12” tires.

The middle number represents the width, and the third number tells us the diameter of the tire.

So, you can understand that Titan Max has both wider and larger tires. And, it means that you will get better traction and a smoother ride compared to Titan.

6. Height of Cut:

In mowing standard guidelines, you know that the height needs to be perfect so that there are deeper roots, fewer weed problems, and a much better look.

Fortunately, the height standard falls in the range of cutting height of both Titan and Titan Max.

Both have a similar low cutting height and a slight difference of 0.5 inches in the higher value of the range.

So, I won’t tell you to make a decision based on this factor alone. Consider more important other parameters for a final decision.

7. Safety Feature:

I know that both Toro zero-turn mowers come with the necessary safety features. But Titan misses one which may be a deal-breaker for some people.

Titan Max comes with a rollover protection structure or ROPS which is not present in Titan models.

Those who have to do landscaping jobs in hilly areas must consider this parameter seriously.

But if you only have to work in plain lands, you won’t have to go for this ROPS feature.

Hence, I am not declaring a winner in this segment and letting you choose based on your requirements.

8. Service & Warranty:

Though both models are from Toro and have a very close resemblance in specs and features, you may think that both have the same warranty period.

In reality, it is not true. The more affordable Titan comes with only 3 years or 300 hours of limited warranty.

On the other hand, the Titan Max has a 4-year or 500-hour warranty making it worth the extra investment.

According to the official guidelines from Toro, you should maintain or service your ZTR mower every year or every 100 hours.

9. Price:

From the specs, features, and my explanation of the above points, you have probably already guessed it.

The price difference between Titan and Titan is about $980, and Titan is in the more affordable category.

You should keep in mind that the price keeps changes as the company sees fit.

So, don’t take my numbers seriously and do a background check before making a decision.

Toro Titan or Titan Max: Which One to Choose?

Otherwise, Toro Titan Max is the best option when it comes to professional service or large areas to cover.
